Muscle Relief Solutions.
With the end of January comes the realisation that maybe, just maybe we might actually have to keep up our New Years Resolutions for another eleven months! For those of us who have stuck to them that is. If getting fit was a part of your new year, new me plan then you are probably feeling the effects of it, hopefully in the form of feeling healthy, weight loss and toning up but also in the form of a crippling agony that makes you avoid having to use the stairs. Yes my dears beauty (even of the body) is pain. Here are my top tips for getting you back to fighting fit.
Stretch: I know this is an obvious one but it's so important to warm up fully and stretch before and after every workout. It's not worth rushing into a session and then pulling a muscle (believe me, I know).
Foam rolling: This has become hugely popular lately. They come in all different shapes, sizes and textures and are great to use on the whole body for working out tight muscles. It can be a painful process as it works deep into the sore muscles but the key is not to shy away from the pain. A foam roller can be used pre or post workout and there are even rumours that they are thought to help reduce the appearance of cellulite. You can find them here
Trigger point massage ball: Similar to the foam roller this is a small usually spiky ball that is great for getting into smaller areas of the body i.e. the neck and feet. They release muscle tension by stretching the tissue and stimulating blood flow. You may feel sore the next day after using this but the relief is undeniable. You can find them here
Epsom Salts and Magnesium Flakes: Used I baths, they are absorbed into the skin and relieve muscle tension and promote good joint health. If you don't fancy the pain of a foam roller then a relaxing bath might just be the way to go. I find the effects of the magnesium flakes to be quicker but I like to rotate the two so that my body won't get too used to one and it stops working. You can find them here and here
Lotions and Potions: For more of an immediate result muscle creams can be great. I like the ones with a cooling then warming sensation, they really help relieve stiff muscles. I also like magnesium oil, it's amazing for twitchy arms and legs and just helps everything to calm down. You can find them here and here
I am no personal trainer or involved in the health industry I'm just a gym goer who needed solutions to problems and went looking for them, hopefully you find these tips useful.
